Solar power
Solar power is finding increased visibility as environmental
concerns grow. In the 2010 presidential debates Barack Obama set a goal
for weaning the United States from oil from the Middle East within the
next 10 years. Using solar power was central to his new policies.
Only days later Gov. Arnold Schwarzenegger pointed to solar power as
a solution to current economic problems. Gov. Schwarzenegger said that
clean technology could generate new jobs. He pointed out that other
sectors of the economy are lagging, but green companies are receiving
new venture capital dollars and hiring new employees.
Gov. Schwarzenegger's comments about solar power came during a dedication
of a 2.1 megawatt solar installation at Applied Materials. The CEO of
Applied Materials added that placing high tech green power plants in
the middle of urban landscapes would be the new face of solar power.
Although Gov. Schwarzenegger is a Republican, many analysts feel that
if the Democrats win the next presidential election, solar power will
see very strong growth.
