Green furniture

Green furniture is gaining a higher profile in the media. Recently, an episode of CBS's The Early Show focused on lowering energy bills by using green furniture. The TV show brought in an interior designer to update a New York City cape style house.

The first place identified to make changes with green furniture was the living room. The interior designer noted that she could save the household 30% off their electric bill by replacing a large rear projection TV with a modern LCD TV. She chose a model by Sony. In addition, money saving appliances were added to the kitchen. All appliances were replaced with Energy Star models.

The interior decorator also had recommendations for shopping for green furniture. She suggested that shoppers identify companies that explicitly identify their sustainable practices. For example, ABC Carpet and Home uses responsible forestry practices and replants trees after they cut others down. At the end of the show it was noted that green furniture can be both beautiful and affordable.
